Police are urging the public to be vigilant following a suspicious
incident in Styal woods in Wilmslow on Thursday 29th December 2011
some time between 2pm and 2.30pm.
A woman was out walking her dog in the woods when she became aware of
a man walking behind her. She stopped to let him past and the man made
a comment to her. As he drew level with her he made a further comment
insinuating that he could harm her.
The woods were busy at the time so the woman felt safe, but the nature
of his comments concerned her enough to phone police later that
evening.
The offender is described as a white male of stocky build and medium height.
Detectives are appealing for any witnesses to the incident, or anyone
who has found themselves in a similar circumstance, to contact Wilmslow
CID quoting incident number 35 of 30/12/2011 on 101 or alternatively
contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
DC Jim Bowbeer who is leading the investigation said: "While no crime
has been committed it has concerned us enough to ask the local
community to exercise awareness and vigilance for their personal
safety. Advice is available by accessing the personal safety section
of www.cheshire.police.uk or by contacting the Wilmslow Neighbourhood
Policing Team on 101."
