OTHER:
With the holiday time upon us please read the below tips which can help to make your home more secure while you are away.
1. Make sure your home looks occupied. Ideally ask a trusted neighbour or friend to look after it whilst you are away ( collecting mail, watering plants etc, closing curtains in the evening ) Let them have spare keys but don't put your name and address on the keys.
2. Don't leave your curtains closed in the daytime as this shows the house empty.
3.Use automatic timer switches to turn your lights on when it goes dark.
4. Cancel any regular deliveries such as newspapers and milk.
5 Avoid discussing holiday plans where strangers may hear.
6 Cut the lawn before you go and trim back any bushes that burglars could hide behind.Lock all side and back and possibly add trellis to the top of walls and fences gates
7 The Royal Mail's " Keepsafe" service will keep your mail for up to two months while you are away.
8 Consider leaving important documents and valuables with other family members whilst you are away.
9. Do not put your home address on your luggage when going away.
10. If you usually leave valuable pedal cycles or similar in your shed consider putting them in your house. Put all your tools away so that they cannot be used to break into your house and lock your garage and shed with proper security locks, If you have to leave a ladder out, put it on its side and lock it to a secure fixture with a close shackle padlock or heavy duty chain
11. Lock all external doors and windows. If you have a burglar alarm make sure it is set.
12. Use your neighbourhood watch scheme by giving each other lifts to the airport.
